Blue-14: HOME

The blue story

Chapter 7: part 2: HOME
by Elise Mullen

My guess for Daria’s Blue 13 is HOME. Daria drew some famous London site with white line work and watercolour negative space. I would love to know how she made this!

Daria’s Blue 13 is beautiful and detailed. I assume she drew this digitally because there are so many small intricate lines. I thought about doing a pen, or scratch drawing of Calgary buildings below Daria’s art. But the more I thought about it, the less I wanted to do it. I did not want to copy her drawing, but I wanted something to compliment her artwork. It was a bit of a challenge to find a medium to balance her piece, because any marks made by hand would look off and not smooth enough.

I stared at this piece of artwork for a long time…a really long time. Then one day I had an epiphany, to photoshop the white paper out and place it on top of a photograph from Alberta. I looked through my photographs but couldn’t find anything that worked well enough. I liked the idea of overlapping Darias image on a photograph of the rockies, where her artwork is the top and the reflection of the rockies in the bottom. This was a great way to show the Alberta landscape against the London cityscape. I choose the mountain scenery to contrast with the London city. I ended up finding the perfect image on google and photoshoped it from there!

Done!
